Here you can learn Turkic runic tamgas. They were used to sign voels and consonants.
Note: all lessons requires knowledge of Kazakh.
Choose a sign


Reading
This sign corresponds to vowel sounds ұ and о in modern Kazakh language. For example, in word ( ) ұлы (great) is read as ұ, and in word ( ) боз (light grey) is red as o.
Differentiation
The sign as ұ or о we distinguish on Cyrillic alphabet of modern Kazakh language. As their sounding is similar they are marked with one sign in Turkic written language.
Place
A sign can be used in all positions (in the beginning, in the middle and in the end of a word).
Transcription
Latin letters u and o are used in transcription. [oγlï] ұлы (great), [boz] боз (light grey).
