Kagan’s offspring, successors of the throne. Old Turkic teg+in > “noble”. The Kagan throne inherited by the strongest elder son (oγul) or younger brother or a nephew (ini, jigen, čїqan). In Old Turkic sources there are names of Kültegin, Yoluγtegin, Ozmïš tegin, El Čur tegin, Toŋra tegin. All mentioned above “tegins” are natives of kagan. Tegins directly participated in military-political activities along with other heir-at-laws of kagan as yabgu and shads. In Old Mongol has remained the form of čigin > chigin//jigin, e.g. Börü+tegin> Böritіgin> Boržiγin >Borzhigin. There are word “tegin” also in names of ancestors of Chingishan. |
