“Four corners, four sides”. Old Turkic outlook to four sides of the earth. Old Turkic “buluŋ” (corner, side). The door of Turkic yurta looks to east. So Turkic person defines all sides standing faced to east. Therefore the direction “ilgerь” (forward) means “east”, “beriye” (the right hand to give) means “south”, “yirjya” (the left hand to take) means “north”, “quruγaru” (back) means “west”. The modern Kazakh words “oη tьstьk” (the right side) – south, “sol tьstьk” (the left side) – north are formed from the same Old Turkic outlook. |
